Employment Opportunity

Itasca, a growing international engineering company, is seeking a Consulting Geotechnical Engineer in its Minneapolis office. The successful candidate will have a background in engineering mechanics and statistics and have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering with focus on geotechnical engineering. Primary responsibility will include characterization, 3D model development, geomechanics analysis for a range of projects such as slope stability, rock stabilization, rock fall mitigation, foundations, construction in soft soil, ground improvement, excavation and support, and soil-structure interaction. Experience using Itasca software (in particular FLAC3D) is highly desirable.

Primary expectations include the ability to:

  • Perform statistical analyses for geotechnical characterization.
  • Perform numerical modeling, analyze results, and communicate results to clients.
  • Work collaboratively with the software development team to develop and maintain Itasca’s software.
  • Communicate with Itasca consultants and external clients to understand needs and help find and develop effective solutions.
  • Continue professional development.
  • Travel as required to visit client sites and attend professional conferences, accounting for less than 10% of the individual’s time.
  • Be self-motivated with the ability to think creatively and solve problems independently.
  • Be willing and able to take on different responsibilities within a small consulting team, including testing, technical support, training, and other non-consulting tasks.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering with a focus in geomechanics and statistics.
  • Three (3) years of experience with geotechnical analysis.
  • Field experience and Itasca software experience preferred.
  • English proficiency.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. Itasca may be willing to facilitate work visa requirements under certain circumstances.

Other desirable skills:

  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD or Rhino
  • Familiarity with Python

This is a full-time position. The position is in Minneapolis, but remote working will be allowed for the near future due to COVID-19.

Salary is commensurate with the successful candidates’ experience.
